Feedback - Tanya Ashfaq, BA Publishing
I graduated from the undergraduate degree in June 2014. I am happy to say that I am now a Marketing Assistant for BioMed Central, an open access academic publisher, working on the journal portfolio in biological sciences. I manage the marketing activity for over 50 journals, in what is a very busy and fast-paced environment. It is extremely rewarding and great fun!
I get to go to conferences overseas and promote the open access business model. I also promote awareness of the journals as well as aim to increase author submissions from academics through a range of marketing activity.
I have been in my current role for nine months now, and I certainly wouldn't be here without doing the publishing course at Oxford Brookes. It is clear that all the lecturers love what they teach, and they express a genuine interest in your future career prospects. They are always there to talk to outside of classes, and are enthusiastic to help you progress. I found the majority of my internships through my lecturers on my Publishing BA course. They always really pushed us to get as much work experience as we could before we graduated, as publishing is a very competitive field. I highly recommend taking advantage of these opportunities whilst you can!
