Digital QA Assistant

The opportunity
Bloomsbury is a leading international publisher, with strengths in trade, children’s, professional and academic publishing. We are currently seeking graduate-level candidates to work on our ground-breaking digital publishing products which are mainly produced in XML. These products range from Drama Online, which reproduces a wealth of plays, from the Shakespearean to the 20th century, through to the Berg Fashion Library visual arts archive and the widely acclaimed Churchill Archive of major historical documents. We are currently looking for a number of people to undertake quality assurance (QA) of the XML conversions of the Drama Online project in particular.
The Role
Responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):

Checking XML coded texts against source editions for structural and textual errors.

Following automated and manual routines and checklists systematically in order to identify and rectify errors in the XML files.

Fixing and recording errors or necessary amendments in the XML accurately and reliably.

Checking the XML data loaded to the published site for accuracy and performance, identifying errors and making appropriate fixes to source files.

Inputting and checking any required metadata and taxonomy indexing to aid discoverability of XML texts.

Freelance editorial work - short-term contract

Marketing Assistant

About the Role
We are seeking a Marketing Assistant to provide administrative support for our dictionaries marketing team, working on our English and bilingual dictionaries and thesauruses across digital and print formats. You’ll be working on world-renowned brands such as the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) and Oxford Dictionaries Online, and supporting the Oxford Dictionaries blog and social media channels.
Your responsibilities will include assisting in the development of sales and marketing materials and consumer and trade marketing campaigns; coordinating conference attendance and inserts; and producing reports on marketing, sales, and competitor activity. You’ll also provide support for our web and digital marketing initiatives, including conducting site testing and image research, and using content management systems to load and amend blog articles and web pages.
The role will offer opportunities to learn about digital marketing in practice, and your activities will be essential in ensuring the success of our dictionary programme

Marketing Campaign Coordinator

Production Assistant , 10 Month FTC

This role is essential in providing production and administrative support to a team of production editors and managers and to maintain data in WJPCMS (the journal production database).
The role will involve liaising with external suppliers (typesetters/printers etc), undertaking production support including checking corrections and revised proofs, updating databases and providing cover for absent production editors during leave. This role would be ideal for someone looking for a first role within Publishing.
Selection criteria
- Strong administrative experience is essential to this role, experience in Publishing / working with databases would also be an advantage.
- Candidates should be educated to degree level; a publishing qualification would be desired but is not essential.
- The ability to communicate effectively and accurately, both verbally and in writing is required as is a high level of computer literacy.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage own workload effectively, are essential.
- Familiarity with Journals publishing would be advantageous.

Editorial Assistant
