Jamie started his career working for a small chain of Scottish booksellers, before joining Hodder & Stoughton as a Management trainee, working in a variety of roles in editorial and sales before becoming Marketing Director of Hodder & Stoughton in 1994. He has been the Managing Director of Hodder & Stoughton since 2002, managing a division that includes General Fiction, publishing major brands like Stephen King, John Grisham, Jodi Picoult and prize-winners including David Mitchell and David Nicholls, and Non-Fiction, where for the Hodder & Stoughton have published the biggest books of the year, with Miranda Hart, Sir Alex Ferguson, Lynda Bellingham and Ella Woodward.
In 2010 Jamie became the CEO of Hodder & Stoughton, Headline Publishing Group and John Murray Press. In 2014 Hodder & Stoughton acquired Quercus Editions Ltd.
He was Chair of World Book Day in 2014 and is now a member of the Publishers’ Association Consumer Publishers’ Council. He is a member of the Hachette UK Board.
