Nigel Roby is the owner and chief executive of The Bookseller. He has been a publisher of specialist consumer and B2B media for over 30 years.
One of the UK’s oldest magazines, The Bookseller has been published since 1858. The Bookseller is the business magazine for all the book trade – publishers, bookshops, agents, libraries and authors. It acts as a primary source of book and author information for the wider national media. Alongside the weekly magazine, The Bookseller publishes daily newspapers for London Book Fair, Beijing, Bologna and Frankfurt. Its bi-annual Buyer’s Guides (Fiction, Non-Fiction and Children’s) are the definitive source of pre-publication book information.
The Bookseller’s flagship event is The British Book Awards, or “Nibbies”, which rewards the very best of British writing & publishing. It also runs the YA Book Prize in association with Hay Festival. It produces three market-leading annual conferences: Children’s, Marketing & Publicity and FutureBook.
Online and on social media, The Bookseller has created a significant footprint with thebookseller.com and its Jobs in Books recruitment site. Its Twitter account alone reaches over 175,000 followers and the websites have over 275,000 unique monthly users. It has added to the stable with the launch of reviews aggregation site, www.booksinthemedia.com and the book events listing service www.bookgig.com, which it acquired from Harper Collins in January 2019.
