Nigel Roby is the Managing Director and Owner of The Bookseller Group which encompasses the UK’s leading business-to-business media for the book trade – The Bookseller and www.thebookseller.com, its conference and blog sub-brand Futurebook blog and its new consumer counterparts, We Love This Book.
Nigel joined Nielsen, the then owners of The Bookseller, in 2008 and bought the magazine out in May 2010, as Nielsen took a strategic decision to exit from magazine publishing. He now wholly owns The Bookseller Group. Before The Bookseller, Nigel spent over 25 years at first Haymarket and then Centaur – two of the UK’s bets known specialist magazine publishing houses. At Haymarket he acquired, launched and ran many titles including PR Week (amazingly as long ago as 1987) and Planning Week – the precursor to Planning magazine. At Centaur he ran New Media Age for over 12 years and, at the other end of the spectrum, oversaw the reestablishment of The Engineer as a strong business. After that, he launched Your Walks as a personal, much-loved, magazine for hill walking which now stands tall as the best one-issue magazine ever produced!
