Jon Snow visits the Oxford International Centre for Publishing StudiesThe Chancellor of Oxford Brookes, Jon Snow, visited the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies on Friday 27 April. The Centre has recently moved to the Buckley Building, the University’s new research building, opened in 2006. He met with staff from the Centre and heard about the range of activities carried out in the areas of teaching, research, and consultancy.
The Centre has a number of international collaborations, which enable students to study or work in other countries, in addition to the many opportunities for work experience and research in the UK. He met some of our postgraduate students, who discussed with him their research into such topics as political biographies, literacy in South Africa, cover designs and how they differ between the UK and the USA, books in prisons, and the publication of Dr Johnson’s Dictionary in the 18th century. Next he visited the Centre’s new IT suite, opened in January 2007, where he met undergraduates working on magazine projects, for which Haymarket Publishing offers a prize of £500 each year for the best student work.
